War is easy. Peace takes work. War is the short road, easily taken. Peace is the hard road, intentionally taken. War is reflex. Peace is discernment. War grabs for power. Peace is a cross.

With sadness and gratitude in equal measure, I post this from the late Walter Brueggemann. In the opinion of many, this writer included, he had one of the keenest, most compassionate and discerning theological minds of our era. Few have influenced so many across the theological and ecclesiastical spectrum than he. I got to hear him speak on the Psalms at the Calvin College Worship Symposium in 2014. I’ve never been the same.
With his loss, may his words spread like wildfire through the earth. We need them now more than ever. Sing now with the angels, uncle Walt. You will be missed…
